FAQ

Registration

You can easily download the uRyde app from the App Store or the Google Play Store, and use it for free with a valid employer or university email address of a uRyde partner or a uRyde code.

uRyde is available to all employees and students of uRyde partners free of charge in the Apple App and Google Play Store. Registration is done via the email address of your employer/university or alternatively via a uRyde code. Your employer is not yet included? No problem, just send us a short email to info@uRyde.de

Please check your SMS or e-mails (including your spam folder) for messages from uRyde. It may take several minutes for the SMS or email to be delivered. In addition, ensure that you have entered your correct phone number or email address and ask for confirmation again. If you have not received a code from us after 15 minutes, please contact us by email at support@uRyde.de

The mobile phone number is used to verify your account and for your fellow passengers or drivers to reach you in case of problems. Of course, your mobile phone number is not visible to all users, but is only displayed after confirming a booking. We require your employer or university email address to verify that you have access to a valid email of a uRyde partner.

Drivers

In three simple steps, you can share both planned and spontaneous rides with uRyde:

  1. Select the “Drive” field on the main screen
  2. Enter your destination and select your departure time
  3. Start your navigation from the swipe-up menu on the home screen
As soon as your ride is online, the uRyde algorithm searches for suitable passengers and suggests them to you. It is highly recommended to allow uRyde to send you push notifications, so you can be notified immediately when someone wants to join you, and you can accept or decline. If you don’t have time at the moment, you can find all open requests for your rides in the menu under “Your requests”.

In the menu under “Your rides” you will see all your advertised rides and rides with other passengers. There you can see all trip details, such as departure and arrival time, start and destination, as well as the entry and exit points of your passengers. Your ride, including the stops, is shown on a map. You can also find information about your passengers in this overview.

For arrangements or messages, you can contact your fellow passengers in “Your rides” menu, via the phone or messenger button.

You can find your meeting point in the ride details under “Your rides”. The address of the meeting point appears on the map besides further details. You will be automatically navigated to the meeting point via the fastest driving route.

You can limit the length of the diversions to short, medium and long in the menu under “Settings” and then sub-item “Ride settings”. The longer the selected setting, the more likely you are to have a match with a passenger.

The uRyde in-app navigation always takes you on the fastest route to your destination and to the virtual meeting point with your passengers, taking into account the current traffic situation. Should you nevertheless believe that there is a faster route available, in such exceptional cases, you can certainly try to arrange a new meeting point by phone or messenger service.

You can cancel your ride in the detailed overview in the menu under “Your rides”. However, you should be aware that this also means that your passengers who have relied on you and your trip will get cancelled on.

Each passenger pays €0.14 per kilometer. So that you are also rewarded for a diversion, you receive up to €0.08 per kilometer.

You always receive the total amount at the end of the ride.

If you want to be paid off as a driver, you can do so once a month.  For the withdrawal, you only need to provide your IBAN, BIC and your name in the payment settings in the app.

Alternatively, you can donate your earnings to charity or environmental projects. At the end of the month, your earnings will be donated directly to the chosen organisation.

uRyde has comprehensive security features to ensure that all uRyde users always arrive safely at their destination.

In addition to a mandatory registration with name, telephone number and e-mail address, uRyde includes a rating system and filter functions. The app also has a safety button in the navigation, that can be used to call for help at any time. uRyde drivers also provide their licence plate number, car brand and model for safety.

Let your fellow riders know if you feel uncomfortable with something. If you find yourself in an emergency situation, you can always call for help quickly using the red uRyde panic button in your navigation.

Yes, you may offer rides with your company car. However, if you use a company car, you might be required by the employer to donate ride charges, or not allowed to charge the passenger for ride sharing.

If required, you can easily donate your ride charges to the organisation of your choice under “Payment & Donations” in settings menu.

Primarily, nothing changes. If you wish, you (driver or passenger) can deduct the commuting allowance of 0.30 Euro/km (also known as commuter flat rate) as tax-reducing advertising costs for the rides between home and the first activity route (workplace).

No. Passengers are only taken on a ride that drivers would make anyway. You only share the travel/fuel costs. Drivers who receive only share of travel costs from the passengers and do not make a profit are not engaged in commercial activities.

However, if you are still unsure, it is advisable to check with your tax advisor.

In the event of an accident, the motor vehicle liability insurance of the person responsible for the accident is generally applicable for all personal and property damage. On the direct route to work, the employer’s accident insurance also applies. This also applies to work routes where you pick up passengers. Other detours are not considered as a direct way to work and are therefore not covered by accident protection.

Passenger

Find the most suitable uRyde ride in four easy steps:

  1. Select the “Ride” field on the main screen
  2. Enter your destination and choose your departure time
  3. Find suitable rides in the ride list and book your ride
  4. Start the pedestrian navigation to the meeting point from the swipe-up menu on the main screen

No, once you have selected your ride, a request will be sent to the driver. After your driver’s confirmation, the ride is considered booked for a fee. During the enquiry process, you are required to enter your online payment details. It is possible that a small amount will be pre-authorised on your card as a security. However, only the fare, including tip if applicable, will be debited at the end of your journey.

You can pay your driver online via credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

At the end of the journey, you have the option of giving your driver an additional tip. Both the tip and the contribution to the journey costs will then be debited from your account. If you do not have one of these payment methods, cash payment is also possible.

You can find your meeting point in the ride details under “Your rides”.  The address of the meeting point appears on the map next to further details. You will be automatically navigated to the meeting point via the fastest walking route.

uRyde has a live location function that makes the position of the driver visible to the passenger, once the ride has begun. Look out for your driver at the virtual stop or call him/her directly.

You can find each other’s mobile phone numbers in the ride overview.

With the uRyde in-app navigation, the driver is always guided to your destination via the fastest possible predefined route, of course taking into account the other meeting points. If this is not the case, talk to him/her about it.

uRyde works across partners, so that a critical mass is overcome from day one and a large selection of trips is available.

However, carpooling can lead to a reduced choice of rides, especially outside peak hours. That is why there are over 200 additional uRyde Pioneers in each uRyde region who flexibly fill these gaps and thus ensure a range of trips.

uRyde Pioneers are users selected and verified by uRyde, who are able to share journeys regardless of time and place. All uRyde pioneers are verified by uRyde employees by presenting identification documents and are available in the app for all users.

Yes, in the event of an accident, all passengers are automatically covered by the compulsory motor vehicle liability insurance.

On the direct way to work, even with a diversion to collect passengers, accident insurance also applies. However, this is only the case on your way to work.

In the event of an accident, the motor vehicle liability of the person responsible for the accident also applies to property damage. Valuables that you carry with you on a regular basis and directly on your body (e.g., smartphone, glasses etc.) are insured for the duration of the ride, but items of personal use (e.g., luggage) are not covered.

You can cancel your ride in the detailed overview in the menu under “Your rides”. However, you should be aware that your driver has already planned and arranged for you as a passenger.

Each passenger pays €0.14 per kilometre travelled, and up to €0.08 per kilometre for the diversions that the driver has to take.

If there are multiple passengers and different entry points, the costs per passenger depend on the number of kilometers travelled.
